ABOUT US

At AAMU Community, we are committed to supporting the refugee communities across the United Kingdom, particularly in Birmingham. Our efforts focus on assisting individuals and families as they adapt to their new lives here. Our mission is to ensure that refugee and  asylum seekers and those encountering language barriers, have access to the guidance, resources, and support necessary to integrate and thrive within British society.

We offer a comprehensive range of services designed to address the challenges associated with resettlement. These include language support, legal assistance, and cultural orientation. Furthermore, we are proud to operate the AAMU School, an educational centre dedicated to providing language learning and cultural programmes tailored specifically to the needs of Afghan children. Through these services, we strive to empower every member of our community with the tools and knowledge required to build a brighter and more stable future.

Our community centre is a welcoming space for newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers. Its primary purpose is to provide support to refugees experiencing hardship, including the provision of essential items such as food and clothing. We also address urgent needs, such as assisting with resettlement and integration into British society.

Nearly all of our volunteers and staff are / were refugees who have themselves migrated to the United Kingdom as a result of war. With lived experience of the challenges faced during resettlement, they are uniquely positioned to offer compassionate and practical support to newly arrived individuals. Their assistance encompasses a variety of areas, including housing, education, health, financial management, women’s empowerment, safeguarding of children, and English language courses (ESOL). Additionally, we facilitate cultural, social, and community engagement activities to foster a sense of belonging.

Recognising the importance of preserving cultural identity, we also provide training courses in local Afghan languages, including Farsi and Pashto. These courses are aimed at Afghan refugee and asylum-seeker children aged between 6 and 16, with the ultimate goal of developing a bilingual workforce for Birmingham and the broader West Midlands region.

At AAMU Community, our overarching goal is to foster a stronger, more inclusive community where everyone feels supported and valued. Whether you are seeking assistance with daily life, looking to attend language classes, or simply in need of someone to talk to, AAMU Community is here to help. Together, we can build a future founded on mutual respect, understanding, and opportunity.

FUNDRAISING

At AAMU Community, we rely on the generous support of donors to help fund our vital projects, including our RESETTLEMENT services and AAMU School. Through fundraising, we are able to provide essential support to Afghan asylum seekers and migrants, ensuring they have the resources to rebuild their lives in the UK. AAMU School plays a key role in preserving Afghan culture and heritage, offering children a safe space to learn their native languages and gain a deeper understanding of their background. With your help, we can continue to empower the Afghan community, providing both the practical support they need today and the educational tools they need for a successful future.

AAMU SCHOOL

Founded in 2009, AAMU School has been a cornerstone of our mission to support Afghan children in the UK. As part of AAMU Community, the school provides a nurturing environment where children can learn their native languages and explore their cultural heritage. Our programs focus on preserving the rich Afghan history while helping children gain an understanding of their identity and background. AAMU School also plays a vital role in integrating Afghan children into their new community, offering them the educational tools and confidence they need to succeed both academically and socially. Through our fundraising efforts, we continue to ensure that AAMU School remains a safe and supportive space where the next generation of Afghan children can thrive.
